Fender came in, but it has a pinstripe I didn’t notice. Any tips for how to get it off?

Belt sander, acid, angle grinder.
Oh, you want to save the fender? Is it painted on or vinyl?

is it on the surface, or under the clear coat?

Heat Gun & f ishing line or floss is always what I see recommended.

A very careful wetsanding should take care of it, but that’s the last resort.

Above the clear coat and Id guess a sticker. I can pick at it with a fingernail but its not coming up.

We should get rid of people who pinstripe their cars.

Good to know and that makes sense, I just haven't done something like this before.

Heatgun and a plastic scraper or finger nail

If you have a Dremel, I think 3M still has a product called the Stripe Off Wheel that’ll remove it.

Token liberal shared a video of it. Now I will find out if that or a heat gun is cheaper.

One “free” option you might want to try first would be wetting a microfiber cloth with some rubbing alcohol and allowing it to soak onto the pinstripe. Then use a soft plastic scraper and slowly work it off. Something like Goo Gone should clean up any residue.

Wheel of death with 60-grit sanding disc?

An e raser wheel is definitely the way to go. I have one that I bought like 12 years ago that I have have nearly worn to a nub because I have used it on so many cars. Once you are done and remove the rubber residue, it’s like the stripe was never there. Plus they are far less work and less chance of hurting the paint than with the heat gun and scraping method.

I only knew about it because I bought a grinder last year so Amazon kept showing one to me. A tool that I had never used? I had to see what it was about.

If it’s stuck on and you don’t have a heat gun a Hair dryer will do the job. For such a thin strip once you can peel up one end with a finger nail it should just pull off.

Milky

Really its less damaging? I assumed taking something abrasive to the paint would have been worse, but I haven't done either way.

So you want to get rid of alpinas? Pinstriping can look awesome, and most people don’t care about the part out value of their fender lol

TBH I liked the gold pinstripe and gold emblems on my 90s Lexus, but my Miata is a 2016 model year car. I dont think it works anymore.

I was hoping to find a pic of a 2016 with pinstripe. I think it could look very good if done right.

Okay, there are always exceptions and Alpinas surely are one of them. But who is pin striping a new Miata?
*Also where are we drawing the line between decal(graphic?) and pinstripe? I dont think they apply it like a pinstripe.

That’s not bad, just a subtle accent.
I don’t hate it.
As far as removing it, a heat gun and your nail to start it, then work slowly. It will take some time, but you have almost zero chance of hurting the paint. Hopefully it hasn’t sun faded at all or it will end up having a pinstripe even with it removed......
If it’s painted on, you’ll end up wet-sanding to get it off.

it is and will work. Soak it with some Xenit from stoner and you can probably use a plastic razor blade or your fingernail to get it off. If you trust yourself use a straight razor blade than wipe the glue with a solvent. That’s the quickest route, but hardest to master. Hold it almost completely flat to the surface and slide it under.

Lol that one is def more of a graphic but some of them are more of a pinstripe like this.
I always like pinstripes on certain Mercedes models as well. I wouldn’t do it on a Miata tho

Absolutely. Because it’s not abrasive at all. It’s exactly like the soft rubber eraser on a pencil. It basically works by creating a little friction which softens the adhesive and peels it off simultaneously . Then the sticky residue binds with the rubber. It does leave a little residue behind, but I just clean it off as I go with a rag and some detailing spray or something similar. With this method I can take the stripes off a car in about 20~30 minutes.
Honestly I was extremely skeptical of it at first too, but the first time I tried it I was absolutely blown away at how well it worked and how fast it wa s. The only thing I would recommend is stick with a quality name brand one. I picked up a 3m one from a local automotive paint supply shop.
Here’s my old Bravada that I destriped like 8 years ago.

I wish I had some newer pictures. But that is the only time I have taken photos halfway through the process.

Going to try hairdryer and nail first, because thats why I have. Shouldnt be sun faded yet, its only a 2016 ... and the rest of my front is already rock chipped anyways, I dont need perfect.

Yeah, in all honesty I don’t know if I would have bought one just to do one fender either. Especially since being a fender you can just take it inside and sit down with your tools and goo gone, and take your time to get it done.
The main consideration for me would be that it’s almost impossible to hurt the paint with it. I am not delicate, and I don’t know if I could trust myself with any kind of scraping device on a painted surface .
